[EIP=0x59174188] Crash at start of the game

Hello,

I cannot start the game even though I followed the instructions to the letter.

Windows 7 x64, had to install HD Mod due to CPP error, and added the Fix.Cosmetic line without the spaces between <>, as expected.
Unfortunately I can't start the game, I receive this error after hitting "Play"



I hope you have any ideas, because I'm out of them.

Instalation order is the one specified in the instructions:
1. Game
2. Mod
3. HD Mod
4. Add line to Tweaks tab

Then I start the game and receive this error. I don't open any map since I can't get to the main menu.

What version of the game did you use?

You are the first to report this problem, so all my bets are on the installation, and not the mod.

Must be absolutely clean H3 SoD or Heroes Complete without any mods like WoG or HotA or HD Mod.
Also, probably needs to be official.

It's the GOG Version of Heroes III Complete. I will try reinstalling tonight or tomorrow, depending on when I get the time. Maybe it was an issue during game installation (although regular Heroes III starts OK).

I'd like to see a screenshot of your game folder.

Ok, so I just did a fresh install and no luck. This is how it looks like:

I also have a log file, but I can't upload it (apparently log files are not allowed) and I can't post pastebin links since the forum doesn't allow it for new members to post external links.

Another user appeared on our Russian social media page with a similar problem. He also had a black font problem which was described here on the forum before though.



What actually helped to solve a crash at start of the game (which occurred 4 times of every 5) is setting the 16 bit mode of HD Mod. Try doing that, and please report if works or not.

I switched to 16-bit and indeed all combinations pretty much worked. Then I tried with 32 bits and none of them worked, I tried plenty.

At some point I managed to find a few combinations under 32-bit stretchable (GDI) that worked, but all of them had that black text. However, I noticed the colors looked wonderful on 32-bit compared to 16-bit (at least on my monitor), so I tried every possible combination and I reached the below, which works every time and also doesn't seem to have the black text, at least not for me:
