Is it possible to run the mod via VCMI? It Supports Wog, but misses couple options. If yes, will it be possible to run multiplayer games with players that don't use VCMI? From what I know VCMI is the only engine that can run Heroes 3 on Linux.

If your problem is that you need it to run on Linux it works fine using Wine. Era/wog, hota, sod etc, most old games (if not all) work without any problem, there is even a program created to directly download from gog on Linux, lgogdownloader.
More info HERE.
Then you can run and configure the HD mod and install/manage era mods (such as Succession Wars) by using the "Edit or update an existing application" option.
EDIT> Sorry my memory failed me a bit, is the "run a .exe in this virtual drive" option. Anyway, is same logic than how to install HD mod as described in the link to add and manage era mods.

We do not see any reason for changing the platform, because:
1) We don't have anything working so bad it requires that 2) We don't have a few more years to spend without actual new content rebuilding everything (we've done that in the past and have no will to do so again) 3) Supporting both versions will take x2 more time 4) We don't see any advantage of VCMI over the existing platform.
