Subject: [H3SW v0.8.1] Changing HD settings does nothing 2019-02-02, 12:23
Hey, Changing HD settings in both era.ini and HD launcher does nothing. This goes for resolution as well as for to = 1 , 1 and to 1, both of which worked fine in 0.8.0. Tried launching through both HD launcher and a shortcut made through HD launcher.

Did you even read the instruction about HD settings? Read it now.

Whoops, this was it. Thank you!

Unfortunately, the situation will not change until the creator of HD Mod actually makes a separated ini file and includes it in the HD Mod distributive. For now, we forced our own settings this way to avoid an avalanche of "bug reports" by people who forgot to turn off the incompatible HD tweaks.

It worked just fine in the 0.8 version of the mod. I could easily change the settings from the HD launcher.
What has changed since then? Manual changes to the .ini file are easy enough, so it's merely an inconvenience. I'm asking out of curiosity.
Cheers

We need our own settings instead of general era.ini which is located in native HD Mod folder. With it, a lot of unnecessary and incompatible tweaks are turned on, including Fix.Cosmetic and several others.
I am just too tired about answering the same "bug" reports which are caused by either people not wanting to read instructions carefully, or outright messing up the settings not knowing what to do with them.
Until the creator of HD Mod answers my message and includes our own INI settings in the official distributive of HD Mod, the situation will not change.

it seems the file situated in "Mods\The Succession Wars 0.8.2\_HD3_Data\Settings\era.ini" is currently not read by the HD launcher. this also results in the "You should run HD3_Launcher.exe first..." error on launch.
the solution is to change the version in the first line of the file to:
Code:
<Version> = 5002392
it might be necessary to always update this version, when the HD mod is updated!
furthermore i suggest the following changes in the ini-file:
otherwise fullscreen is not possible. also note that the 32-bit modes (ID's 5 and 7) do not seem to play nice with TSW mod, since all fonts are black instead of white.
i would also append these lines to the file to disable stretch filters and interpolation to keep the sharp pixel look:
what i also wanted to do is change UI.Ext.TownMgr.AvailableInsteadGrowth from 0 to 1, which is a very handy and logical change imho. unfortunately this does not seem to have an effect. maybe the devs have a solution for this?

Oh, my. Another case of incompatibility.
Well, at least we now know what causes the problem.
A year ago, there were cases where people couldn't play H3SW with HD Mod, and we had to advise installing older builds. I guess the current situation is the solution by the HD Mod creator.
We will have to look into this for the next release, but I suspect we will have to contact baratorch directly.

IIRC townscreen features are HD+ functionality, which experiences a lot of problems with WoG and WoG-based mods (which H3SW is too). There was a period of time where HD+ was locked for such mods and we never took HD+ into equation. I guess, this is one of such instances.

Probably we should try avoid using the 'era.ini' file as it seems the current HD mod version works alright with H3SW without it.

We will need to check if there are some unwanted HD mod tweaks active after our era.ini is removed. That's why that file was invented at the first place.

Sure, but currently the only issue seems only to be the gold font turning black for 32-bit modes. Even the 'fix.graphics' setting seems to be gone.

Then, we cannot delete them as of now. We'll get hundreds of reports and will have to warn everyone that our fonts don't work for 32 bit True graphic mode.
The solution: I need to contact baratorch directly and try to convince him to take a look at our code. We've had such conversation with him several years ago, but I will need to know if the deal is still on. Thankfully, feanor has given me the source code for our fonts.
