Currently working on a full remake of Heroes 2 for modern operating systems and graphics tablets. Windows, Linux, Android and Darwin will be supported to get started.
Will be developed mainly in C++ and Lua LÖVE for maximum flexibility.
The remake will be the "true copy" of our beloved Heroes 2, but without the bugs and with many innovations.
New features:
- 2 new factions with specific towns. - 3 new campaigns with at least 10 scenarios each. - new enhanced map editor. - powerful new campaign editor with possibility of adding additional functionalities (more on this subject later). - more than 20 new secondary skills. - more than 40 new spells. - more than 200 new artifacts (including new ultimate artifacts). - more than 50 new heroes with portraits and an easy way to add you own heroes by modding. - advanced modding support for full game features. - improvement of the AI with an innovative system of "modules" and possibility to add your own modules with specially developed tools. - complete options system to play the game the way you want. - multiplayer supported with a PBEM (play by email) system. - new possibility to save your games during combat to allow PBEM games. - new Script Action System (SAS) to save and replay your most epic combats. - multi language support (english and french for first release). - and much more...

Yeah saving during battles would be great, but maybe too much "powerful" for the "saving game before any action" style of playing...
But ... Maybe players could give order to each one of their creatures + hero spell, then each battle turn "resolve" at the same moment. Some will miss their attack because ennemi moved too far or so... It would change a little the gameplay of the battle... xD

If the player have fun doing this, let the player have fun, it's for what games are made for, to have fun.
Personally, I often do the same combat in different ways to see if it's possible to improve the result. And sometimes, just a small change makes the combat is won instead of being lost.

It will not work for me, Heroes 2 is not a game where the actions "miss their goal", but a "planning game" with actions and reactions (spirit of strategy).

Not fun... But in tournaments people does boring things just because it makes their main Hero having 3 more movement points on next turn... And so, with this "battle saving game" will turns offline tournaments to be even more boring, being just a plenty reload game... how to beat a dragon with 5 paysans ... xD

Let them do the boring things they chose to do. Anyways, with or without the possibility to save during combat, they will do so.

I actually played with the Android version of Heroes 2. Compare to the PC version, that also has some important features what is completely missing from the PC one like:
- Determined amount of experience requirement for the next level is displayed when picking up Treasure Chests - The exact mobility points each day for a hero's entire movement distance is displayed - In each town, the marketplace has a feature that allows the player to give away resources and gold as a gift to other players similarly what can be done in Heroes 3 marketplaces - Each creature dwellings are interchangeable in an upgraded state to consider purchase non-upgraded creatures for lower cost of gold. - Whenever any wandering creatures are about to join us, even if our army is full, we have the chance to consider use our marketplace to change some resources into gold to accept their offer in an alliance or just make a room for that stack of creatures

I guess that Heroes 2 is much more developed than the PC one and not even the Gold version of the game was changed that way.
