Dear Enrothians,
In honor of April's fools day, we proudly present a funny, yet classic HoMM II map with fairytale chess!! Go Ask Alice... created originally by Phil McCrum was one of the 25 'best of the net' maps which made it into HoMM II Gold.
The map takes place in a wonderland world where the human player controls the red chess pieces, including a king. The goal is to defeat the white king from the other side of the 'chess board' without losing your own! Other pieces include a queen, knight, bishop and of course peasants. A lot of funny events can be found throughout this interesting map making featuring characters from the classic 'Alice in Wonderland' fairytale with a nice twist.

Just played the thing and it was fun, found a typo at the road sign, "could" was probably meant to be something else. Mind if I share other things despite spoilers or should I post it elsewhere..?

Well, aside of the typo I didn't really found anything text-wise, just some map events are easy to miss due to positioning and/or the fact that a non-player hero can trigger them, which is pity considering the nice story it tells. Also I have noticed the Sphynx and a mine on the north east not being triggerable, Sphynx probably not having the riddle done (with a good hint being justa step away but easily missable) and the mine missing it's trigger completely, probably easy fixes in HMM2SW map editor.
Also these are the pics I have taken, I've got tons of crowns by the end and could relatively easily beat the other king. The plot was super fun, poor Alice. Noticed the other side got different plot as well so it could be a nice multiplayer map too, what I didn't understood is the need for gazillion neutrals all over the map. Also, I had to google for the Walrus and Carpenter thingy, so yeah, I'm not one of the 15% players, rip me.
Thank you for sharing! It was a fun thing for 1. of April.

Thanks for sharing your feedback!! It is much appreciated and I am glad you enjoyed the map I looked into the event at the road start and it is actually the way it is written in the original H2 map, but I believe the text should be "Oh, boy! A path... this should help me from getting lost in this deep, dark forest!!!", so I will change it into that. Also, well spotted with the sulfur mine, that was quite a nasty bug, so I will fix it immediately and upload a fixed version

Also one of the "Jabberwork" signs (west on map, middle sign) has no trigger, couldnt read, and not sure if intentional but Ultimate artefact got place but no obelisk on map, maybe it's a part of riddle but unsure.

Yes, I also saw the unfunctional sign when I fixed the other stuff, so that is fixed as well. The UA is placed there on purpose and there is just no obelisks, which I believe is, as you say, because of the riddle

Alrighty! Getting an Ultimate artifact in a creative way is also another touch for the map. Thank you for working on it and sharing! I want to make maps myself, but am a bit afraid there might be significant changes in this between v0.8.2 and v1.0 once the official first release comes out. I do love H2 graphics and H3 mechanics in one.
