One of our programmers looked into this. He reports that both Ironfist and the original game (DOS/GOG.com version) hang indefinitely trying to load this save.

I did some tests, I manage to load the save file with the original versions "English Gold version 2.1" and "English version 1.3", the bug occurs as indicated.
With the versions "GoG version 2.1" and "Ironfist version 1.3.0", the program crash to desktop while trying to load the save file.
I don't have a DOS version installed.
