[H3SW v0.8.1] Crash when I wear the Crystal Ball and right-click neutral packs (also Visions Spell)

Here's the scenario:

I obtained crystal ball and worn it for the sake to take a look at the Power Liches to make sure how many of them are present from 10 to 19 and this happened.

1. Do you have Diplomacy skill?
2. Do you have HD Mod installed?
3. Show me the screenshot of your Mods folder.

The answer is yes, I have basic Diplomacy as Crag Hack.



No, I don't have HD mod installed on this version, however I needed HD mod previously on v0.8.0. At the case of v0.8.1, HD mod autocrashes at the actual launch from the HD mod itself. I deleted v0.8.0 and HD mod as a whole via IObit Uninstaller and reinstalled v0.8.1 into a clean H3 complete directory without anything else. Hota, vmci project, ERA and the rest of the mods for H3 are installed into each separative clean H3 complete directory.

A last extra info: If I put Crystal Ball from the misc slots to the backpack section of my hero overview and right click the liches then it will display the approximated amount normally without crash.

Until it's fixed, I prevent myself from using the Crystal Ball artifact.

I asked you to show me the contents of the Mods folder. I still have no information on what's left there, and what is written in list.txt. Moreover, since you uninstalled HD Mod via a third-party software instead of its official uninstaller, I also cannot predict what files might have left in your game directory.

The crash is related to a new text line for the new mechanics of the Diplomacy skill. Crystal Ball is not the reason for it, but the Diplomacy skill is (which affects the Visions spell).
Basically, when the Diplomacy skill works, you should receive this message with both Crystal Ball artifact and the Visions spell. This is how it looks in HD.


The EIP=0x0061DBAA address means that the game cannot find this text line in game resources.

This only means that you it installed improperly. Did you try to launch HD Mod for several times in a row?
I highly recommend using HD Mod because it not only fixes this crash as well as sound-related crashes of the original game, but also brings more convenient graphical settings and custom template menu.

UPD. I reproduced the crash on my computer.

The issue will be fixed in v0.8.2 update. For now, you can simply install HD Mod and be done with the problem. If you don't like the interface adjustments of HD and are not going to use extra resolution, you can turn off the <UI.HiRezCore> tweak in the era.ini file to be found in the H3SW subdirectory (see installation instruction).

I have to manage that after I deleted the previous game directory with IObit Uninstaller, I also put that directory into the bin left behind in the game folder and reinstalled H3 complete (GoG version) entirely. This time, I didn't install HD mod, just the SW mod as the game won't launch from HD Mod Launcher, (yes, I tried to launch it from there repeatedly, but same error message) nor the mod executable H3sw.exe will work if HD Mod is present. The game works properly without it except for this game crash.

So now what happens when you install HD Mod over everything? I recommend doing that for the increase in game stability.

Okay, I created a brand new clear H3 complete directory, installed HD mod and SW mod right after it. The HD mod requested it's reinstall with 4.3 version or something (latest version), so I reinstalled HD mod again I launched H3SW via HD mod now and everything was fine which is strange. Not so long ago I got a short error message each time I wanted to launch the game via HD mod. I smell something like wrong installation method I did before but I don't even know how I had installed the game compare to how I installed now. It now works perfectly with HD mod somehow. I have set HD mod screen size to 800x600 screen resolution which resulted the game launch the same resolution like I would launch the same game in the directory without HD mod. The only difference about playing it via HD mod is that there's no blackout screen effect between entering or exiting townscreens or battle screens. I will make sure to report if I encounter anything wrong during HD mod gameplay. I'm glad I could make it to install the game the HD mod way. I'm still uncertain about what was the error message before, but I don't care about it anymore as long as it doesn't pay a visit once again.

The installation instruction clearly states that HD Mod should be installed after H3SW, not before. When the order is broken, the patcher_x86.dll file becomes outdated.
Thus, the error message.

You can also turn off the <UI.HiRezCore> tweak to get rid of some interface adjustments of HD Mod, if such need exists.

Thank you for the aid in launching the game correctly, Orzie. Everything seems to be fine from now on. No new bugs we don't know about nor crashes happening eversince I'm using HD mod with the game.
