...and that's what we have for the 6th promo screenshot.

This time I almost didn't 'cheat' and tried to fix most of the gameplay issues beforehand. Only the Tavern upgrade (Brotherhood of the Sword) is not included, and the road of the Tavern is fixed manually, just like manual fixes for the interface frames/Marksman icon.

Updates performed today by feanor and I:

- Implemented 5 levels of the Mage Guild for the Knight;
- Prepared town_coords.ini for a similar update for the Barbarian and Witch;
- Improved the Town Hall so that it fits to the townscreen graphics;
- Introduced a little more complex road design for the upper levels of the Town Hall;
- Fixed the Upg. Armory shadow accordingly;
- Fixed the inactive houses a little;
- Fixed the coordinates for the Brotherhood of the Sword (the sprite will still need revising)
- Restricted the Lighthouse for building.

New content will be available in the UpToDate folder today.

In my view:
1)put the mage guild to the right side
2)make the spells a little bigger
3)use the last option
4)maybe decorate the place, add some colums to the sides, some shelves and some magic looking stuff

I think the first option with the Guild sprite to the left should fill the screen better. I'd like to have the sprite changing with the Guild's level, too.

Optionally, if this is easy to do, I'd also like a text "Level 1" written with default color MEDFONT.FNT just below the guild sprite so that the screen will be more detailed. We already lack the spell names/costs which is not so good, but that can be left for v0.9 when we are going to remake the magic/spell system.

True, theres time. A minor thing that would be cool is fancier scrolls. Higher the level, better the paper, seal and decoration.

Will repeat this next year also, think its a good idea but in no way important:D

about "Better level and better the paper is" ... Hmmm I would say no, but if we put some decorations there some day, the decorations would be better for levels 4 and 5. But who may design such decorations?

I don't think the decorations are really necessary in this case. Besides design, this would lead to additional headache with differentiating them in the game (currently all of the spells use the same scroll sprite).

Having a more sophisticated background like it was in Heroes III would be a more decent solution, but we currently do not have artists of such level.

I'm sure there is no sense in trying to reproduce the lower sand texture because it doesn't correspond to the in-game townscreens. It will be better to adjust the creature background image instead, when the castle background will be remade with the newest adjustments.

Your fix of the beige pixels can take place, but the Lightness parameter is surely chosen too low, this brings too much attention and noise to the chosen parts.

Terrain just lacks some detail.
Also shadows should be softer and maybe less contrast for buildings. Dunno.

I do write it, yes.
Replace the soil near coast from "plain sand" to something more suitable. Or try to add there some grass, or... just do something with it (if I guess it right and the water is a place for a shipyard).

Hey, I rarely write here (or give opinions) cause you guys are doing an amazing job. Usually when I see good things done I keep my mouth shut. But I always observe the process Smile

My major concern during this process has always been the screens of the new towns.

I'm glad to see that things are beginning to shape up with the dervish town. Definitely some progress there. The dunes and sky create a nice atmosphere. I agree that some more terrain detail might build up this atmosphere. And I'm guessing that the oasis in the down left corner is an early work in progress. So far it's the weakest spot in the whole picture, but I'm sure this would be easily fixed.

I'm curious to see the building with the latest post production added (the grainy vga filter)

Don't worry about the water, it should be a rather easy pick. We don't have the shipyard rendered for it yet, though.

The most tricky aspect would be achieving a rather H2-ish picture, so perhaps I will have to re-make the 2D treatment once again for newer versions. For now, I suppose, we should stick to what I come in mind for v0.8, with some possible adjustments during the process. I'll try to keep this thread updated as far as I struggle with the death rally of downgrading the picture in an artistic way. Smile
