New Forum Engine?!

Hi, just to tell you that I feel kind of bad about theses "unread post" notifications missing after some minutes of inactivity on the forum.   (reading a long message make "everything has been read")

I never knew about that bug on forumactif... And it makes me understanding that I always has been the most active user in previous forumactifs forums I joined!! xD
And it also explain also why over time people ran away from my forums. (I used that kind of forum for Guilds/Clans years ago. ^^)
And so, it explains also why I am not very active recently.

I really apologise about that bug.

But so, from now...
Some months ago, Orzie activated the "Last topics" tool (on the left), and it make this forum maybe acceptable for some of us, but I think that over the time we will loose more and more people. And this isn't good at all.

Do we plan to stay on this forum for life or changing again, someday? (after the release of current big work of h3sw?..)
Because, if I remember well we regrouped all Heroes II projects here because:
1/ it was kind of "neutral" forum (ie: not hosted on ironfist project, neither on H3SW)
2/ fancy H2 style!
3/ forum settings is in all languages.

But so... just in the hypothesis that someday we make a new forum;
1/ neutral, kind of forum.enroth.net? www.enroth.net ? ( http://enroth.com/ is taken lol but we can get free email@enroth.com ... lol)
1bis/ Maybe Darmani can export all data from this forum (no need to register again)
2/ I can make the style on a phpbb forum I think, and for sure if the person who install the forum can add some class, we would be able to customize it to 100%
3/ Maybe no need of all languages, but even, I am sure that phpbb2 stuff also has languages pack. ^^

That's not really that I want to change forum, because it's kind of often meaning loosing some members of the community during the transfert, but this bug will anyway make people less active here, because it's difficult to follow any topic. The only way is to always reply to each topic we read to make sure (for the next time we open the forum) that we did read until here and then continue from here. :pirat:

My own technic is to put https://heroes2.forumactif.com/search?search_id=watchsearch as bookmark, and open (new tab) all theses replied topics since previous visit, and then refresh the "watchsearch" page. (rince repeat when it's weekend! lol)

It's an interesting idea, because personally I don't like some features of forumactif engine and miss some from other engines I got used to. But what will happen to the posts? And will it cost money for us?

I don't know if we can do that for free. :s
Because we kind of need to get a storage space somewhere, and usually "free storage here, make you website, forum, emails" services last very shortly, and usually are for single users or maybe little groups of people. (while Enroth community is more than a little group of persons. ^^)

Plus I never bought any name domain and so.
I hoped to know more from whoever did the www.ironfi.st stuff.

And I forgot, but then there would be no commercial on the forum too. ^^

About posts, I know we can get all data from here (on request to forumactif staff) ; users datas, posts, and maybe forum architecture.
(About how to do... I don't even get how Darmani putted in this forumactif data from others forums... lol)

Yeah, the plus is that if you want anything I am sure we can make it.
(or find it somewhere if it's common enough )

But, I have to tell you, about making own forum, I never did that before, I am very interested in CSS stuff, but about php/sql stuff... ahhh... lol


Anyway, right now, it's just an idea... And the only task I can do myself in that is the css design. (previous time I saw ironfi.st page I wanted to make a H2ish css for it! lol Sometimes it popups like that in my mind )

I actually see some good sense in relocating the forum to a new place without ads and engine bugs. I suggest renaming the thread title to something like "New forum engine?", maybe.

I will have some money to support the site, we'll see how the things will go. For now we can stay here, but in future it's nicer to have a fully satisfying community.

The features I miss on Forumactif engine are splitting messages in one step (like on DF2 forum) and more clear notification of who liked a specific post (like on DF2 also). Well, and lack of bugs would be also cool

You can rename the topic if you want, no problem.

If wasn't a moving boy (In japan since few days, and for maybe long), I would have probably a computer who would be hosting my own stuff and websites on internet. And I am pretty sure that in our community someone is doing that. (probabilities should talk!! )

And if we have our own forum we can lately store H3sw/ironfist tournaments data in the site, linking it to forum accounts, etc.. (kind of same as HP, but with a better forum graphics )

But for this, we need someone expert in that domain.
I never used phpbb scripts neither phpbb forum installation nor phpnuke nor etc... So I can't do that myself. We just need the right person and then we can do it.
