Subject: The "Monster Yotta Pack" aka the "MYP" from the FoE 2017-02-22, 09:25
Why not make available on the site a zip file regrouping all the maps made for Heroes 2 since the dawn of time (and another one for Heroes 1)?
We will name it the "Monster Yotta Pack" aka the "MYP".
Mom: "No, you are not going to play this game again!!! Heroes 2, what a name!!!" Heroes 2 hardcore gamer: "But mummy, I just want to download the "MYP"." Mom: "Oh my sweet love, I'm so happy that you take your future seriously." Heroes 2 hardcore gamer: "Yes mum, you got it, "MYP" is everything!"
One day, I will list all the Heroes 1 and Heroes 2 maps I have.
Also, look at the introduce yourself thread, many of users have made maps or they wish to make maps. They should be encouraged to upload their maps, and with a simple way to do it.
The "Forums of Enroth" site must become the mandatory crossing point for every Heroes 1 and Heroes 2 player who respect himself.
Don't be shy, show your maps to the world!!! Don't be selfish, share your maps!!!

Enroth want you!!!!!
The maps are ready to be listed!!! Any help is welcome!!!
If you wish to participate, please reserve the available files by selecting one or more letters (see below), and indicate it in this thread.
When you have chosen the letter(s) of the files, a link to a zip file will be added in this post so that you can download it. The zip file will contain only the maps with the letter(s) chosen, a temporary version of the MYP (working version), and a calc file to fill as indicated below.
When you have finished entering the data in the calc file and all the maps are segregated in their respective folders, archive them in a zip file and post a link in this thread so we can download your completed calc file and the filled MYP.
If you have maps that are not yet in the list, you can also archive them in a zip file and indicate a link in this thread so that we can download them.
Thanks for your help!!!

For better compatibility, all tasks must be performed with Heroes 2 Gold English version (EDITOR2W.EXE ver 2.1 and HEROES2W.EXE ver 2.1) for Windows.
Naming convention.
Naming convention:
The name of the file must reflect the name of the map.
For example, the "Map_0127.MP2" file displays "Lancelots quest" in the Editor selection window.
The first letter of the important words must be in uppercase. The extension must be lowercase.
The spelling mistakes of the map name must be corrected.
So, ideally, the "Lancelots quest" name in the game must be corrected to become "Lancelot's Quest" and the file name must become "Lancelot's Quest.mp2".
Except that for that one, there is not enough room to add the " ' " in the map name in the Editor (the "Lancelot's Quest" name is not possible).
Therefore, the name is corrected in this way "Lancelots Quest" in the Editor and the file name renamed accordingly "Lancelots Quest.mp2".
Don't forget to add the old file name in the "Old File name" cell.
Don't change anything other than the name of the map in the Editor, if necessary it will be done later.
For maps in a language other than English (the original language of the game at release), the file names will include directly a precision on the language used. Thanks to GodRage for this.
Examples:
English --> Enroth.mp2 French (fr) --> Enroth.fr.mp2 German (ge) --> Enroth.ge.mp2 Polish (pl) --> Enroth.pl.mp2 Russian (ru) --> Enroth.ru.mp2 Spanish (sp) --> Enroth.sp.mp2
Some maps will maybe be translated into English afterwards.
******* Updated on September 4, 2017 *******
The name of the files must be now in "DOS format", to preserve maximum compatibility, and especially because the program remembers the last scenario launched only if the name of the file is in DOS format "8.3 filename".
For example, if "The Two Lands" is displayed in the Editor selection window. The file name must become "TheTwoLa.mp2". Also, the extensions ".fr", ".ge", ".pl", ".ru", ".sp", etc. are no longer added.
Suggested procedure.
Suggested procedure:
Go to your Heroes 2 "MAPS" folder. Create a new folder and name it "Original Files". Move all the files present in your "MAPS" folder to the "Original Files" folder. Your "MAPS" folder must not contain any files. Create a new folder and name it "Work in progress".
Open the "Tempo - Work in progress" folder located in the "[Monster Yotta Pack]" folder. Copie all the files to the "Work in progress" folder located in your Heroes 2 "MAPS" folder.
Open the "MYP Heroes 2 20170227 - Start.ods" file. This file is a calc file created with OpenOffice 4.1.3.
Select only one file in the "Work in progress" folder located in your Heroes 2 "MAPS" folder and move it to the "MAPS" folder. Your "MAPS" folder must contain only one file.
It is best to do this this way, because if a file does not work, it will crash the Editor. If there is more than one file in the "MAPS" folder, you will waste your time determining which file is the cause. If there is only one file, it is necessarily that one.
Launch the Heroes 2 Editor (EDITOR2W.EXE ver 2.1) in windowed mode.
Arrange the windows so that everything is visible at the same time.
Working space:
From here, you can already fill some cells in the calc file.
The title "Enroth" corresponds to the "Map name" cell. The yellow "6" corresponds to the "Number of players" cell. THe yellow "L" corresponds to the "Map size" cell. The green "Tombstone" corresponds to the "Victory condition" cell. The red "Tombstone" corresponds to the "Loss condition" cell. The Map difficulty: "Normal" corresponds to the "Difficulty" cell. The text "The land of Heroes II." corresponds to the "Description" cell. The language used for the text corresponds to the "Language" cell.
Some cells have drop-down lists with different possibilities, just select from the list. It is always possible to write something else in the cell even if a list is present by double clicking on the cell, but this should not be necessary.
Once all the cells are filled, press the "OKAY" button.
Once the map is loaded, you can determine if the map includes a sea area and fill the "Water content" cell.
Heroes 2 Enroth map opened:
Then, click several times at different places on the minimap.
If the map does not crash the editor, clicks on the "SPECS" button.
SPECS screen opened:
From there, you can continue to fill the cells in the calc file.
The Special Victory Condition "None" corresponds to the "Victory condition (for this scenario)" cell. The Special Loss Condition "None" corresponds to the "Loss condition (for this scenario)" cell. In the Players category, you can see the number of possible human players on the map and fill the "Number of humans players" cell. In the Events category, if there are events in the list, the map certainly includes a story. This corresponds to the "Story" cell.
The Map Filename "ENROTH.MP2" corresponds to the "File name" cell.
Sometimes, the Map Filename is not completely displayed in the Editor, you can go to the "MAPS" folder and look at the file name directly to remedie this.
***** Beware!!!! ***** Sometimes, the file extension (".mp2" for "The Succession Wars" or ".mx2" for "The Price of Loyalty") is erroneous. You must look at the map and determine for yourself whether the map includes elements of the extension "The Price of Loyalty".
If the extension of the file does not match the elements present on the map, you must change the file extension accordingly directly into the "MAPS" folder. You must also fill in the "Old filename" cell with the old name of the file you just modified. Here, you can also fill the "Game version" cell. Once the name is changed, you must reload the map in the Editor.
***** Beware!!!! ***** Sometimes, the Editor crashes even if the map is working properly. I don't know why this happens.
If the Editor crashes, you must load the map at least 3 times to see if it works. By loading the map at least 3 times in the Editor, you are sure that it comes from the map and not from the Editor.
If the map works correctly, move it to the appropriate subfolder in the [Monster Yotta Pack] folder.
Example: "[Monster Yotta Pack]\[Playable maps]\[English]\[User made Scenarios]\Enroth.mp2".
If the map crashes the Editor or/and the Program (EDITOR2W.EXE ver 2.1 or/and HEROES2W.EXE ver 2.1), move it to the appropriate temporary subfolder in the [Monster Yotta Pack] folder.
The "Old File name" cell can contain multiple file names. If so, they must be separated by a comma. Example: "old name1.mp2, old name2.mx2".
If you don't know what to put in a cell, do not put anything, it will be filled in later.
You can optionally start the scenario to determine the map type, the starting conditions and the style of play, to fill the "Map type", "Gameplay style" and "Starting Conditions" cells, but this can be done at a later time.
All cells beyond the "Story" cell must remain empty for the moment.
Screenshot of the minimap.
Minimap:
The size of the minimap file must be 144 pixels by 144 pixels (144px × 144px). There must only be colored pixels from the map and not the black pixels around the map.
Make a first screenshot (only the minimap area) when the reticle that delimits the area of the map visible on the screen is located in the upper half of the minimap (the small square in dotted line of red color on the minimap).
Then make a second screenshot (only the minimap area) when the reticle is located in the lower half of the minimap.
In an image editor, copy the lower part of the first image and paste it in the lower part of the second image, save the image in png format with the name of the map contained in the name of the png file.
Example: for the file "Enroth.mp2" the file name of the minimap must be "Enroth minimap.png".
Move the "Enroth minimap.png" file to the [Monster Yotta Pack] appropriate subfolder.
If you wish to participate, choose the maps you want to work on (categories by letter).

It's seems to be a pretty cool idea By contrast to the H3, the number of maps published for a H2 and H1 should be countable, I think that around 1000-1500. It will be easy to gather all the maps together, but most of them are not top quality, so we shouldn't forget about fishing the pearls and putting them in a visible place.
Btw, what is "Monster Yotta"

True. I don't see any reasons why such map pack shouldn't exist. There should be also a division by languages: some maps for example are Russian and thus barely playable for non-Russian speakers.
Don't forget to check the largest source of maps of Russian community.

Lands of Enroth. http://homm2.free.fr/enroth.php?p=maps&go=en
I made few packs with all the Heroes 2 maps available on internet in 2011. So it's not up to date anymore but... It's taking a freaking long time. And there is maps uploaded on différents websites with différents names... maps being translated to others languages... (russian maps makes my french PoL crashing xD)
So if you plan to just download and zip...I guess it's the responsibility of each "major" maps's websites to propose by them-self a zip with all the maps for each HoMM.
And so, with a biiiig pack, how should we organise it? By size? By language? By date? There is a lot to think before starting this idea.
And also, to make the pack "enjoyable", we must delete all the shitty maps that has been half made or so. ^^
Long project. ^^

Basic tree could look like this:
We shouldn't remove any maps, just move some of them to the directory "unfinished maps". We can even create a third folder "maps based on a map generator". I know some people who like to play such stuff
In the main directory we've got folders for a specific languages. We can divide them further, e.g. by size or by names, but for the first version it should be enough. Later we can also think about adding a minimap for all these maps.
Maybe someone know, if it is possible to add details to the files in Windows? Something like Author, Last modified, Length. We can add under such labels additional info, for example number of players and size of a map, but it looks like it's available only for images, videos and music.

Concerning the different languages, it would be really nice to translate them at least in English.

Yes, great site, I am up to date with the maps on this site.
Badly designed maps are also useful. The player can look at them and think: "What the heck, I can do better than this!", and he can become a great well-known mapmaker.
Yes, some maps have info from the authors, they should be available. I think a specific folder for each category with a text file for each map should do the job.

If someone will find time, we can prepare a database, containing all the maps, making looking for a specific maps easier:
EDIT: I think that we should put maps with 'readme" in a zip file, because most of them is just called "readme" The rest can be put as they're.

I don't think so, it's a real pain to use when it's done this way. I am doing a list of my maps, and I have already climbed the stairs several times because of this.
All files related to a specific map should be renamed with the name of the map included in their names, and can even be merged in a single file.
Enroth is an "official map" (native map?.. :p), there is more than 1 map; one for each language localisation. So... Sometimes the map should be Enroth.ru.mp2 maybe? (English maps don't get the .en. as they are the "standard language" of maps...) But the double "." is good or not? Kind of, H2:ironfist may have a way to sort maps by language? And if so, how they more likely wants it to be done?

@Unknown_Hero Do you change the names of a map files? It would be nice to have all the maps in a correct order when searching for a map.
Here are the maps that I was able to find on a polish working sites and from some already archived:
Hmmm, it looks like most of them are in English, though
I will also check some old cd's, but I rememeber, that their maps were of questionable quality
Here is another site with downloads, there is much interesting stuff (531 maps!):

@GodRage
Good idea for the precision about the language directly included in the file name for languages other than English. But the files must remain in their respective language folders.
I tried with Enroth.ru.mp2 and it works.
I don't think it's necessary to include a map sorting system according to the language into Ironfist; it's so easy to select the desired maps before launching the program (a simple "copy and paste").
@Uhm
I think the file name should be changed to reflect the one that is displayed when the user loads the map into the game and into the editor.
An example:
Map_0127.MP2 displays "Lancelots quest" in the game selection window.
The file must be renamed "Lancelots quest.mp2".
Still thinking about this, and I need to make some tests.
I think since the MYP is supposed to provide everything that has been done for Heroes 2, the worst maps have to be available and located in a specific folder, even if named "Garbage". At least for the maps already created, the new maps submitted in the future (after the first version of the MYP) must first pass a "quality test" before being included in the MYP.
Subject: Re: The "Monster Yotta Pack" aka the "MYP" from the FoE 2017-02-25, 15:03
Phew, I finally finished my list. The staircase was high.
Here is the latest list of all Heroes 2 maps that I own. Here is the list of all Heroes 2 maps that I own.
Maps that must be played as a campaign are not included (some yes). The maps are not yet sorted. There are duplicates, they have the same name (and for some only the file extension is different), but they are supposed to be all different if only by size, at least that is what Windows indicates.
There are also some maps in Russian downloaded from the site indicated by Uhm, I already owned all the others.
*
Here's how I see things after some thought.
The MYP database will contain this information (for the time being):
MYP database:
Map name: contains the name displayed in the game selection window and in the editor selection window. Example: "Enroth".
Map author: contains the name of the mapmaker of the map. Example: "NWC".
Map year: contains the year the map was created. Example: "1996".
Playable: indicates whether the map is playable (Yes or No).
Map crash: indicates when the map crashes the program. Examples: "Editor launch" or "Program launch" or "Program and Editor launch" or "During the game".
File name: contains the name of the file. Example: "Enroth.mp2".
Game version: indicates the version of the game needed to play the map. Example: "SW".
Old File name: contains the old file name or other file names, if any. Examples: "Enro.mp2", "Map0284.mp2".
Map size: indicates the size of the map. Example: "L".
Language: indicates the language used in the scenario. Example: "English".
Number of players: indicates the number of players for the scenario. Example: "3".
Number of human players: indicates the number of possible human players for the scenario. Example: "2".
Victory condition: indicates the condition to win the scenario. Example: "Capture a specific town."
Loss condition: indicates the condition to lose the scenario. Example: "Lose a specific hero."
Difficulty: indicates the map difficulty determined by the scenario designer. Example: "Expert".
Description: contains a brief description of the map.

I think it should be easy enough to generate a readme file for each map, when necessary, directly from the database. In the same way, it should also be possible to generate the necessary "text" (and then copy and paste) to make posts about the maps directly from the database. The same ones you make Uhm.

Sounds like a good plan Right now I would concentrate on segregating maps inside folders. We could start working on the database once it will be ready.
I've uploaded all the maps that I have had in my "maps" folder (without original). There are a few maps which I couldn't find in your collection Link
Inside there is also another folder with Russian maps from forum.heroesworld.ru
These maps are: "Сила дракона" - "Power of the Dragon" "Вторжение" "Аrrow" - "Стрелка"
I didn't see them on your list.

Your maps have been integrated, thanks!
By now, I will start by sorting the maps before anything else to have only one file per map, to start on a good basis. It may take a little time.

I saw some french maps inside your list, so I hope you took all the packs available on Lands of Enroth I wish you good luck with this awesome idea And I think I will help later, when it will be time to check what map is in double.

@GodRage
All the packs available on Lands of Enroth have been integrated. I had editor crash problems with some of your reworked maps. I kept those working, for the others, we will see why they crash the editor later. All tests were performed on Heroes 2 Gold English version (EDITOR2W.EXE ver 2.1 and HEROES2W.EXE ver 2.1) for Windows.
*
All strictly identical files with different names have been sorted. There are still duplicates, maps with a similar name, but their sizes are different. We will have to compare them more seriously later in the editor to see what are the differences and choose the most suitable.

Any help is welcome, thank you for your "may be" future help on this point.

I am wondering if it is actually neccessary to make such complex folder tree as we have now. We will have everything labeled in a base (at least I hope so ), easy to find, so why do we need to make separate folders for SW, PoL (they've got also different extensions indeed), S, M, L, Xl maps? It shall be easier to find map when we just go to: [English]-> [Custom maps]. I am all the time putting sw maps to pol folder and vice versa Maybe something like this?:

I have no objection to that. You can consider it as validated and make the change. Let's go with "[User made Scenarios]". A simplification that works is always welcome.
