| Hey guys,
What's happened to your main website at http://homm2.free.fr? I was using it's awesome library of stuff to help me make a mod but it's been down for a few days now.

Hello Blake01, It's actually not down. Sometimes, the website can be down for a short moment, because it's a free hosting service, and others websites may make the free server quite busy. But usually the down time is short. In 10+ years the longest downtime i saw was lasting 2 days, and in 20+ years i saw maybe 5 downtimes. Hopefully it works again actually. ________________________ ~Lands of Enroth~

| So it's loading just fine for you right now?? The site hasn't loaded for me for 4 days. Doesn't matter how many times I hard refresh my browser, doesn't matter what browser I'm using, doesn't matter what else I'm doing on my internet at the time, doesn't matter if I'm on my computer/laptop/phone it just will not load anymore. | |

Yes, right now http://homm2.free.fr/ works fine. And I'm in Japan, while the website is hosted in France, so i don't think there is some sort of "ping limitation" neither "ip restriction". (And i still have 0 banned persons, as nobody did bad things ) I doubt it will fix your problem but maybe you can try with this url: http://homm2.online.fr Another way to see the content of the website without being able to access it directly would be to use the archive service: https://web.archive.org/web/20190706101428/http://homm2.free.fr/?p=index&go=en ________________________ ~Lands of Enroth~

| Yeah I already tried webarchive and sadly none of the faction pages or terrain map object pages were backed up.
Other link doesn't work either.
HOWEVER I just turned on my VPN and told your site that I'm in Canada instead of Australia and BANG it worked straight away! Soon as I turned the VPN off it stopped working again. That is so friggin weird lol.
Oh well at least I'm in now haha.

Oh well at least I'm in now haha. This is strange. But until 4 days ago, it was working without VPN from Australia? Or it was working with the VPN "as it was from australia"? (then maybe the VPN ip got somehow banned from free services... someone may have hacked a website hosted by free with this VPN... )And anyway it should be visible from any country in the world, i searched informations about it, but i didn't found any country restriction. Good news that you found a way to access it again. Wish you pleasant time on Lands of Enroth. ________________________ ~Lands of Enroth~

| Nah I'd been using your website for weeks on my regular Australian internet with no problems until 4 days ago. Hadn't touched my VPN in months as I didn't need it.
Using the VPN and pretending I'm somewhere else seems to be the only way to get your site working at the moment. Very very weird.

| Then it's very strange. I hope my website isn't going to become "France only" in near future! Or i'll have to buy a real hosting service for 100 years Can you tell me what do you see when you go to http://homm2.free.fr/ without VPN? White page? Any text? Does my site works if you tell to your VPN that you are in Australia? (if so, it's probably all Australia that can't open my website). And does http://godrage.online.fr/ works from Australia? (to check if it's all free's websites... or just mine ) Thanks a lot if you can do theses tests and tell me what you see/get. ________________________ ~Lands of Enroth~

Thanks a lot if you can do theses tests and tell me what you see/get. 1. Yup when I go to your site without the VPN I get a white page with this text: This site can’t be reached homm2.free.fr took too long to respond. Search Google for homm2 free fr ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT2. Unfortunately my VPN provider (Eddie AirVPN) doesn't have an Australian server to connect to (I guess no one wants to pretend to be us hahaha). I sent your link to a few of my buddies on different internet service providers and will see what they say. 3. Yup their whole damn site is no longer working. Wonder why they'd block us.. This site can’t be reached godrage.online.fr took too long to respond. Search Google for godrej online fr ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT4. Oh and it took me half an hour but I just backed up every sub section of your site onto webarchive to make sure it never gets lost. Looks like it only backed up the English version though as the moment I click on another flag I get a 'not backed up on webarchive' page sorry.

| Thanks for your response! 1. Not responding. I guess a cable is broken since 4 days between http://homm2.free.fr and your home. Maybe a boat hurted it 4 days ago? - Blake01 wrote:

2. Hahahaha 3. ok. 4. Thank you very much. 5. https://www.free.fr/ is also not responding? (it's the main site of the company, it should works... ) (edit) 6. Thank you for your message on the guestbook. ________________________ ~Lands of Enroth~

| 2. So far the friends I've asked to try have been able to load http://homm2.free.fr just fine. Also I realised my mobile phone was still connected to my home internet so once I turned off wifi my phone was able to load your site just fine too. So perhaps they just don't like my internet provider right now.. or me lol! Dunno what I could have done though. I've had your website open in my browser for a few weeks to help me while working on a mod but there's nothing dodgy about that lol!
5. Interesting, https://www.free.fr/ loads just fine for me with no VPN.
6. No worries haha. Your site achieves in a WAY better way what I originally sort of wanted to do with my website (in sig), in that I like creating pages where its displays pics and info over a game screenshot background with some music making you feel like you're actually in the game. I like retro immersive websites like that and yours is one of the best I've seen!

| 2. Hahahaha i hope it's not against you. Maybe there is a grief between free (it's also a provider) and your provider... Kind of "who pay to upgrade/repair cables"... Free had this problem with YouTube(google) years ago; YouTube refused to pay to upgrade their cables.. xD I'm happy you have a VPN so you can continue to visit Lands of Enroth. 5. Ok... That's then very suspicious!!! Only personal websites are not visible from your provider. 6. I did visit your website few weeks ago. Seems there is a lot of pages to see. I get a bit lost while browsing it. (Maybe because of the menu :p). But i like the atmosphere!! By the way i have another immersive website, not about HoMM, but about Mechanized Assault and eXploration (space ambiance, turn based strategy game) that you may enjoy, even if you don't know the game : http://godrage.online.fr/MAX/?p=units I don't add musics that much (only on intro page in fact) because we can't keep the music from a page to another in a simple way. (it has to be in javascript and it can be heavy for old/weak/busy computers..)But i would love to. ________________________ ~Lands of Enroth~

| 6. Thanks yeah a lot of people say "thank you for taking me back to the 90s" when they see it haha. Most people are nice but some are not so kind about it, and yeah usually its the topic of navigation that I get torn a new one over. But yeah it's a retro site meant to feel retro, plus I'm not a programmer so I don't have the skills to create something more modern even if I wanted to haha. Any java on my site is usually simple stuff 'borrowed' from other sites lol.
Ohh I like your other site even though I don't know the game. Very cool. What sort of game is that? It reminds me of Dune 2 and Imperium Galactica 1 (two classic favourites of mine).
Yeah I had the perfect tool for music on every game tribute page. This nice little flash music player that I could heavily customise and change its colours to match the colour theme of the page it was on etc however then Google Chrome decided to block Adobe Flash lol. Firefox and other browsers are still fine but Chrome users (myself included) now just get a little grey flash error box/icon in the top right corner (which no one's gonna notice) where the player normally was and you have to click on it for chrome to ask your permission to active flash and then it works (however it first reloads my whole site instead of taking you back to the page you were at). Thanks google lol.

I totally agree. From my point of view, the only lacking thing is a sitemap or a menu that helps visitor to see what is in the website. But back in the end of 90's there were not always a clear menu... And sitemap was not a thing yet. - Blake01 wrote:

It was a RTS, but with simultaneous turns (same as "Lords of the Realm II"), but we could also play it turn by turn, but then the gameplay was very different. But recently there is 2 remakes of this old game: https://www.maxr.org/ - Real time turns https://maxsrv.automania.net/ - Turn by turn with a server that save the game, so we can be 8 players on a game, but 8 players games will last months. Both are playable for free actually. - Blake01 wrote:

Yeah, flash is going to disappear... You can just put an html5 audio code in Top.html ( https://www.w3schools.com/html/html5_audio.asp ) and it will works. But if you want a playlist... maybe you can with javascript. ________________________ ~Lands of Enroth~
