I am not fully satisfied with diagonal cliff, i need shorter version that allow to make easy diagonal cliff coast - this version requires "stairs".

Maybe later i or someone who will know how will add something to this.
Diagonal cliff need to have darker top i think...  but not everything at one time:)

I don't know about others, but I like it... Gives the map a new dimension. Would love to see some experiments with bigger/huge waves, hard to do but wonder how it will look... most saeas are gently, this world could use some diversity like rain or windy seas... of course, there are many more important things to do

Very good job, you're getting better very fast Smile
I do not agree on bigger waves though, it's good as it is. And I like the idea of the coast that you cant land on with your ship (placing trees and rocks/mountains on new maps was sometimes annoying and didn't look good)

However you have to fix shadow on water on diagonal one (place some objects on water in the editor to see the correct shade)

I think we need at least one version for each side of this octagon

PS INFO: I've started learning after a long break, so I'll have a bit less time from now on (but only a little Very Happy), and I want to finish lizardmen and crossbowmen animations in the near future

Drawing weather effects in heroes is possible but not very useful.
every turn is a day, those games lasts for weeks and months, sometimes years.
it would be weird if rain or snow would be falling in one place for this whole time.

And yes i know about biomes (winter biome for example) and autumn trees that never lost their leaves.
I know that seasons and weather would be something awsome but that propably impossible for homm3 engine.
Maybe i'm wrong but this woul'd need  gigantic amount of scripting and drawing.

I had idea about adding night battles, that woul'd need only 1 additional background for each terrain type (look at my arabian night image from general graphics discussion) but that's not first thing that need(or if at all) to be done.

All this cliff case also isn't very important for this mod, but with approval of others it may have a chance to add new(and not too difficult to implement) interesting feature to heroes.

I joined here because i wanted to support this project and help as much as i can.
Sitting and impatiently waiting when i have some useful abilities and time woul'd be a just a waste.

I dont know how many people are inolved in this, but every pair of hands will bring 0.8 closer to release.Positive moral
And with this thought i will draw further.

Is this image 2x2 in proper size? It would allow to make simple diagonal cliff.
If yes i need to create more versions of this and more sides.

Ragoon, I was talking about the waves and weather as a seperate thing! They can work together with the high cliffs if needed! If not... The current one looks great this way also!

Yes, one square is 32px, but keep in mind that it can go even further for about 4 pixels (doesn't have to fit exacly). It will fix the problem with stacking them next to each other (no space in between). Also, shouldn't the squares be L shape for this cliff? Down left one doesn't seem very needed, because if you place a ship in it, it's still in the water

I don't think we are in a strong need of anything new and radical for v0.8 though. I'd stick to a selection of few uphill cliffs Kantez posted on 28th of February - they can be properly adjusted and made more or less harmonical addition to the game if used in the right hands. Concerning the other types of hills, especially those which are falling into water, there are some major issues which don't cause much optimism.

1. Water terrain def is programmed in that way so it cycles specific color indexes. Adding water in the def must concern an included animation corresponding to the coastal waves, otherwise the coastal waves near the standard isles will be conflicting with the water included as a part of the cliff sprite.

2. It's too hard to make the coastal cliffs stacking well enough.

3. The coastal cliffs in their current form don't look good separately from each other. It's either you fill the whole island borders with such cliffs, or you don't use them at all. Not a perfect option. Also not sure about the H2 feel of this addition, since even the previously discussed uphill cliffs don't look very natural near classic Wasteland mountains.

4. Don't forget about passability squares and coordinates. It's mandatory to make 100% sure that a hero passing by will not look as if it flies over the generally impassable area.

Still, I admit that this has some potential and fills a certain niche which is not fully covered by classic H2 objects.

Just delete the water from the cliffs but keep the waves, this will solve the issue

Yeah Smile
The other thing is the shape, it's curving down and it's not that good for stacking (or standing on it's own without other cliffs anywhere near). You did the opposite for grass-water cliff, so try to experiment with different shapes

Kantez , u are out of ideas :d talk to Orzie, there are many things that need doing for the release!

Anyway, really loved your cliffs! Will you continue the idea? You could do an outpost and some stairs, so the thero can "climb up" the cliffs :d

I like the cliffs on the waterside.
But about the cliff in the lands, I think it would be great to make it touching mountains at one of the borders.
But anyway, great arts. Smile
