| From time to time I am thinking "It would be nice to have a chat on the forum". And then I am realising, that we already have the chat, but in a rather inconvenient place . It would be way more utilitarian, if placed on display. I know, it might be hard to put it in most desirable places, so I want to ask you, do you can bump it and where (and do you have time to do it )? Here are my propositions: 1. Just under the list of latest topics. It worked on an old SWmod forums, but I assume it would be quite hard to insert due to a small size of the box 2. Pop-up box. Just place the "chat button" on the top of page, and after pressing, a new chatbox will appear. What do you think?

| If you mean the native Forumactif chat, it's not convenient because it has automatic log-off which really sucks. ________________________ | |

| Well, I can't tell anything about functionality of the current chat, because I didn't have a chance to use it . But if it would be possible to implement other chat, then why not? | |

| Sure. I enjoy the chat of http://forum.df2.ru, but I am no webmaster and have no clue if it is possible to somehow customize the existing chat for this forum engine. ________________________ | |

| For me, the problem of the chat on this forum is that if you keep chatting hours, you may miss replies on your favorites topics... :s If there were an #ENROTH channel on an IRC serv somewhere I would be quite often connected on it. ^^ ________________________ ~Lands of Enroth~

| Very nice! If only we could make the chat working automatically on the main page...
The Latest Topic widget would also require a revamp, but I don't know if this is possible. ________________________

Not everybody wants to join the chat. ^^ And it's easy to goes on it, just open in a new tab, or with any IRC program. (even with apps for smartphone in fact) But anyway if we are not going to use it I won't put the link in the menu. But the advantage with this chat (over the "native forum chat"), is that we can put it anywhere (I can put it on Lands of Enroth, you can even put it on the ModDB page maybe :p) ________________________ ~Lands of Enroth~

If it's included as a small window on the main page, it's no trouble. I've seen dozens of sites which have it like that (see Shoutbox). Those who wish to enter the chat specifically just push the button and the chat opens on a wide screen. - Quote :

The native forum chat has a forced logging out without the user's will, and this is why it is absolutely useless. If your chat doesn't kick inactive users from the discussion, I'm 100% for it. ________________________

| A Shoutbox is not like an IRC chat. I guess you guys don't know what is IRC chats. Of course it doesn't kick over delay! And usually there is an auto-reconnect in case there is a disconnection, in almost any IRC program. Most of people joining IRC channels use a light program to join their favorites channels, then it's not "browser dependant". ^^ I personally use Nettlaksince 1 year. But IRC chats don't show the discussion that you missed. A shoutbox is just like a topic on a forum, with just small posts and minimal design. (and so, show all the discussion that you missed) But mah, there is some famous servers such as quakenet servers, we don't have to be on freenode, if you prefer another server. ^^ (but freenode is mainly to support open source projects... If I understood well their description. xD) ________________________ ~Lands of Enroth~

| So, we can do 2 things about the chat. Especially because there is 2 kind of chats: Shout boxYou let a short message, and it's still visible days after. it's a kind of very small forum's topic. ChatroomYou send a message, and only people currently connected to the chatroom can read it. And so, the forumactif's native chat is a shoutbox, but if you want to read messages you must connect to it, and it keeps disconnecting you each several minutes. What would you think to have both of a chatroom and a shoutbox? The chatroom can be easily implemented on both this forum and any other website. (H3SW? ironfist? Lands of Enroth?) By the way I added the Chat's button on the top of the forum page, let's try during some time. ________________________ ~Lands of Enroth~

| It would probably be good to have the chats of Forums of Enroth and Lands of Enroth linked/merged, so this will bring more dynamics to both sites. I am for any kind of chat that doesn't disconnect users each minute. I would prefer the messages visible to everyone, though. This way the people may be more willing to participate in the discussions if they feel the topic interesting, because usually many people don't seek conversation specifically. EDIT: didn't check the #Enroth chat yet, but I surely will in future. ________________________ | |

| Sometimes someone comes to the IRC channel i opened (and of course i don't notice him/her fast enough!! hahaha). But, 3 visits into 1 year, it makes me thinking that we should remove it (remove links), because IRC is "oldschool"... And visibly nobody is going to use it here. Maybe another chat system would be good? I heard that Discord had also chatrooms, but, it's mainly for voice chatting... (but it's free and can work on smartphones too.) ________________________ ~Lands of Enroth~

| Well, for now I don't think additional efforts are required on that direction, because no one yet knows about the existence of such a chat. So first people should come somewhere else and figure out that there are some opportunities for a good talk.
Personally, I'm afraid to say that most people will tend to Facebook in any situation because they feel the most comfortable there. Forums and chats cannot be popular anymore.
I don't know what chat application is the best, but I've seen a live chat on http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php (see Shoutbox window). ________________________

This is in javascript, language that I don't touch at all. I am definitively a css maker. x) It's time for us to rely on someone else for programmation, because my limit is clearly the "map upload system" i tried to do, i am much more into putting design into a complex css file than programming php/javascript. xD ________________________ ~Lands of Enroth~

| I think you shouldn't worry about the chat for now, since there are practically no reasons to come to this forum until one of the projects is released. Sadly enough, people seldom come here in search of a dedicated community because social media took all that. Anyways, I have hopes that after the release of H3SW people will tend to come here more often, but still, this will be no more than 1% of actual fanbase. ________________________ | |

| By the way i made a shoutbox in php on Lands of Enroth (it's called "River Forum" actually... ), so it refresh each time you click on any link. But because i'm the only one who ever "shouted" something, i am not sure if it's working well or not!! I agree with your social analysis. ________________________ ~Lands of Enroth~
