Well, if you're doing 64 frames of animation in 5 hours, sometimes having to redraw it (beholder) it is hard to get everything right (lost pixels).
I seem to struggle with color transition too :p

Yeah, that work sometimes takes time comparable to the time spent on animation. So probably we should leave things as they are, because it's already been too much without a release - the latest open mod version dates back to January, 2013 ( !!! ).

By the way, feanor has continued the work on creature abilities. This means that soon we will be able to announce the closed beta testing. During the testing period, we will have to make as much graphics as possible, so the release will finally see the light.

That's great news! I will be very busy 3 next weeks, but if Feanor will introduce all the creature stats, at least I will try to organise all the creature graphics we have.

Btw, Ragoon, all the files that are recently put into "up to date files" folder can be added with MMarchive to the "succession wars.pac". Also put "zeobjts.txt" to the "data" folder. You will see how your work looks in-game Wink

I am very happy to hear Feanor has returned. I hope he is doing good. It will be great to have the missing programming stuff in order Smile

Btw, Uhm, when you will have time, please make sure we don't have excess creature upgrades in zeobjts.txt (the game is currently unplayable). We should have only Heroes 2 creatures + all Witch creatures with the only one upgrade for the Lizardman + Dervish creatures with upgrades for the Rogue and Medusa (lvl 4) for v0.8. Also, for some reason a lot of general 2-square flagged dwellings is missing from the list, while we should have all Heroes 3 basis for the release, more or less complete. I will prepare the actual dwelling list in the following days if you haven't put the proper defs in the Uptodate folder yet.

I've removed dwellings of some neutrals and Inferno creatures, but I was planning to remove everything connected with H3, once Feanor's list will be ready. I have a problem what to do with Dervish dwellings, because Feanor put elementals on place of unapgraded forms (in h3 - water, fire, earth and air elems) and currently Dervish cannot recruit his units.

I'm preparing a technical thread with new creature def names. There is a peculiar order for them. All the inconsistencies will be fixed via programming (e.g. Scorpicore replaced by a Green Dragon, and there will be a fix for the dragon dwelling on the adventure map).

The dwelling names can be left as in H3 for now.

Draft of a Harpy Nest. Suggestions are welcomed Smile

I've got the feeling, that it would be a good idea to put some rocks under the nest and maybe make it a little bit shorter

I would suggest making it even wider so it fills 2 squares more tightly (if not precisely).

The rocks, if any, should be grey-based like generic Heroes 2 rocks (look at the Roc dwelling you put in the release). A nice option would be some difference in the nests design (we have 3 which is really hardcore, as well as 4 pyramids but there is no bloodless solution).

It should not be a cylinder in its geometry. Maybe think about it more like a bowl. You can check out these images (1, 2) of vulture nests for inspiration. I think they are resembling a more rough nest type which could suit the harpy good Smile Also I think it is too big, both in its wide and height.

My idea - harpy nest inside of the giant skull

Even for townscreen:

Okay, it looks badass, but I am not sure how fitting the huge skull is, especially taken straight from Skyrim's troll.

Why do harpies have to live in a nest though? I rather liked the idea with the cage, but why not have harpies live in hanging cages? Some birds do, plus you need to keep these savage beasts in check. (Also this idea reminds me of laboratory in W3:HOS where a mage tried to train harpies as Redanian airforce...)

Spoiler:

P.S. As for Harpy design, I still love the brutal ones drawn by Ragoon the most! <3

I prefer old one, sorry Kantez.
Don't bother with shadows and flag placement next time, it will be better if you leave it for us to make.

We also dont have enough dwellings for the witch. Only tribal is ready and wasp and lizardman designs are questionable imo, but they're here so if anyone wants to try, we need:

Toad dwelling
Mantis dwelling
Treeant dwelling
Wyvern dwelling

Harpy dwelling
Acolyte dwelling

Not nessesary:

Werewolf dwelling
Wasp dwelling
Lizardman dwelling

Well, it'sa very nice try. When I will find a moment I will sit down and try to tailor it a bit to a H2 style. Current version in a Mod is taken straightly from H3 and looks just bad.

A nice idea in fact. There were no dwellings with bones as elements, so in theory this could work after some adjustments.

I'm afraid this one is a little too complex in design which is usually not characteristic to Heroes 2 concepts.
The townscreen forms are also a matter of 3D modeling, the mechanism of making specific H2 townscreen look is hidden in Photoshop's Add Noise filter. It's practically impossible to draw anything fitting enough for a townscreen by hand from scratch.

We already have a hanging cage as an element of Manticore dwelling.

I also think that yellow windows are better for now. Of course, this would need major adjustments, but at least that's something already, so big thanks for helping out.

Toad dwelling

Before it's too late, I suggest a giant water lily or even a small lake with a giant water lily on it. No particular preferences in all other mentioned dwelling designs.

I like Kentez' version the most. I still think it is too big though. Compared with "classic looking" (especially goblin, orc and ogre) dwellings it looks like it belongs to a dragon or something. Maybe an outline should be made to make it more distinctive from desert terrain.

Thanks Albe.

About scale - in homm2 adventure map scale is quite contractual, (nie wiem czy użyłem dobrego słowa poprawcie jeśli się mylęRazz)
i mean look at the Den/pyramid/orc hut...
Player need to see at what he looks it cant be too small.

Try to make harpy nest for 1 square + - 32 pixels, about 40 max and it should be better.

Also place your lake dwelling on all terrains (take screenshot at h2 map editor and paste it in your graphics program) and post it here so we can se how it fits
