PostSubject: Bug when adding a new creature.   2015-07-21, 06:25

No matter what I do, when adding a new creature, I get this error message:

Whether I copy/paste the code from the Wiki for the Farmer, or use an existing creature's code as a base, I get that error when I try to load a town with my creature added to its garrison.

I don't know if this can help you.

Did you watch the video to add a creature:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLEjN6YkvEQ

It seems a file is missing.

I did, actually, thanks. I'm able to edit existing creatures with ease, but whenever I try to add one (whether copied/pasted from the Wiki or copied from an existing creature with the number changed), it gives me that error. Sad

First, it sounds like you used the ID "66" for your creature. That ID is actually taken by a "random creature" object. You will need to use a new ID for your creature.

Also, pay attention to the different kinds of graphics needed to add a new creature. At 7:30 in the video, I create "MONH0077.ICN," which contain's the treant's portrait. You will need something similar for your creature, or at least some kind of stand-in.

The error message, by the way, means that the game as looking for "MONH0066.ICN" in its .AGG files, but could not find it.

I tried to give it an ID of "78" (the first free ID in the list), and I get the same error. Sad

If you previously made a map when the creature's ID was 66, you will still have a map with a creature whose ID is 66, meaning you'll still get this error.

Was there any followup to this? I'm having the exact same issue. No matter which way I seem to go with adding a new creature, the game is stubborn and crashes.

The issue was that the creature was given the wrong ID. The behavior described was exactly as expected.

You might want to double-check that you're not making a similar mistake. If you're still having trouble: When does the game crash? What creature are you adding and how? Are you able to modify existing creatures?

Well, I'm just testing the feature. What I did was just copy/paste the Paladin creature, edit a few stats, and just made the ID 78.

Here's the code just so you can see I've done it right:

Code:
</creature>
<creature id="78" name-singular="paladin2" name-plural="paladin2s" icn="paladin.icn" frm="paladfrm.bin" cost="666" fight-value="4704" fight-value-aux="78" growth="1" hp="150" faction="0" speed="6" attack="12" defense="15" shots="0" short-name="pldn">
        <damage minimum="30" maximum="70"/>
        <random-spawn minimum="6" maximum="12"/>
    </creature>
</creatures>

And despite keeping it clean and only changing the creature id, name and a few stats, I get this error (after placing my new creature in a castle and enter it with my hero):

Your problem is exactly as the error message says: It can't find the file MONH0078.ICN. You need to create graphics for the creature (at least placeholder).

What were you expecting to happen?

I recommend reviewing the tutorial on adding new creatures. You really do need to do all of the steps given:

Quote :

1) Create its art
2) Set the frame info to control its animation
3) Select sounds
4) Package the resources
5) Select its stats and metainformation

Right, but in the Farmer example in the tutorial on the Wiki, it simply uses the peasant frames and everything which is exactly what I'm doing for my creature.

It does, and, to do so, it creates a file named MONH0073.ICN. Similarly, you will need to create MONH0078.ICN.

So I will need to add that to the game's .AGG?
